Can you tell us briefly what you do at Power Train?

My role in Power Train is to head up the Client Services and Design functions. In a nutshell that means that I am responsible for ensuring that, by working in partnership, we fully understand our clients' needs, as well as those of their customers. That information is then harnessed to develop, design and deliver events that totally hit the clients' business and cultural objectives, thus ensuring sustained results.

What attracted you to work for Power Train?

In my previous life, I contracted with many suppliers to deliver various training services. At my interview with the Chairman Ian Smith, I can still remember the thing that really stood out for me about the Power Train way of doing things. Although everything we do is based on sound theory the focus is on practical application, application, application (as opposed to Location, Location, Location). Every event recreates exactly how it is in real life and is immediately transferable back to the work place, so results are instantaneous. I found myself thinking, "I wish I knew that before…"

What is your most memorable Power Train moment?

As normal I can't stick to the rules and have three memorable moments!

No 1. Jill, Mike, Lucy and I forming a Power Train team to run in the Business Challenge 10K and being interviewed on the radio. The thing that most sticks in my mind is not that I managed to run for an hour! (something I never thought possible), but Lucy live on air stating, when asked how she would recover after the run, "Definitely with a couple of pints and some chips!"

No 2. Being driven at over 100mph in a Mercedes-Benz AMG shortly before the very rich footballer turned up at the Dealership to pick it up! (Hello, eat your heart out!)

No 3. My first proposal, pitch and "It's a yes then" for an Aviva Managers' Conference. Designing the event and then seeing it come to life was almost as terrifying as running the 10K!

What are your favourite past times/hobbies?

This is the bit where I should try and make myself sound really interesting… I love listening to live music; I work out three times a week up on the Bristol Downs – it's great to get outdoors; I love to travel and have a particular love for all things Italian and my Mini Cooper S Convertible. However my newest love is our VW Camper Van. When loaded with my partner, children and boxer dog and we hit the road, it's like the Clampits ('Beverly Hills Hillbillies') on tour!

What’s the best thing, and the worst thing, about working for Power Train?

The best thing is the diversity - as no two days are ever the same, it's never boring – coupled with our continued drive and passion to maximise the services we deliver to our clients. The worst is the guilt after eating bacon and egg butties, scoffing cake and drinking champagne… that’s how we celebrate Power Train styleeee…. It's a hard life!
