SENIOR CONSULTANTS

Ian Smith

Can you tell us briefly what you do at Power Train?

I have worked for Power Train as both an employee and as an associate for the last 4 years and within that time I have carried out a number of roles. These include; spending time in the clients’ business so that we can accurately portray the ‘total reality’ for staff, designing various front line and leadership programmes, and playing an active part in rehearsing the actor consultants for new events, and of course I have also delivered the full suite of events that Power Train offer.

I have been fortunate enough to experience the adrenalin rush that comes from delivering to large audiences at company conferences in order to launch their programmes and excite interest in staff to deliver a better customer experience.

What attracted you to work for Power Train?

I have been in the field of learning and development for over 15 years and had fought with the constant defence of people that trainers do not live in the real world. So, when I saw how Power Train brought peoples’ reality to life, and how people responded to it, it restored my passion as a trainer!

What is your most memorable Power Train moment?

Too many to mention! There is never a dull moment! Probably standing in front of over 450 people and watching their reaction to a ‘member of staff’ in the audience (an actor) publicly slating the management team and then the staff cheering as he took to the stage to ‘show management the reality’ when it came to delivering customer service.

What are your favourite past times/hobbies?

Before I had kids I had loads of hobbies and past times! – weekends away, keeping fit, shopping and 'socialising'. Now a sensible mother of two, I am a professional taxi driver and manage to ferry my kids around so they can enjoy their favourite past times and hobbies!

What’s the best thing, and the worst thing, about working for Power Train?

It would be great if all the clients we worked with lived within an hour of my home so that I don’t have to spend my life on the road – but I guess that is the price you have to pay to do a job that you get a real kick out of!
